Kim Thompson grew up in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and carried on her schooling
studying History at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
After graduation she took the very popular find-yourself backpacking tour of Europe. Upon finding herself at the end of four months a) cold, b) tired and c) hungry, she returned to Saskatoon. There it became evident that her history degree had paved the way to a glorious career as a gas station cashier. She then pondered two drastic options for her future: a) enter law school, or b) leave town. Fortunately cooler heads prevailed, the latter path was chosen, and she moved to Toronto to study film at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. Many student loan dollars later, she emerged with her first film, "All the Great Operas (in 10 minutes)", an animated short. Her second film, "This is the end of me", is a rather odd little documentary dealing with issues raised in her studies of history and film. "Hockey Stories" is her third film, a collaboration with her brother Sean, who is based in Vancouver and has been painting on a mystical hockey theme for many years. In fact, she was so inspired by his work and this project that she joined a beginner women's hockey league, much to the astonishment of family and friends. When not working on her films (or playing hockey), Kim writes scripts for children's cartoons. Her other interests include photography, sailing, cocktails, revolutionary politics, and birdwatching.
